Marjorie H. Harm, 100, of Pierson passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pierson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Boll Cotten officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Marjorie Helen Harm was born July 13, 1908, on her family's farm near Pierson, the first of five children born to Curtis W. and Orpha A. (Baker) Culler. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Pierson High School in 1927. She helped her parents on the farm and assisted area neighbors with housework.
On March 21, 1929, she and Fritz August Harm were united in marriage in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home on a farm near Pierson. Throughout the years, the couple farmed in the Pierson, Washta and Correctionville, Iowa, areas. They retired from farming and moved to an acreage near Pierson in 1969. Fritz passed away Feb. 28, 1977. She had resided at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center for the past two years.
She was a member of Pierson United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Koffee Klutch group, card club and garden club. She was one of a group of parents that helped form the hot lunch program at the Pierson School. She found great joy in gardening, especially raising roses. She also loved to fish and took many family trips to the lakes. In later years, she began painting portraits and scenery. She kept aware of current events and always followed her family's interests. She was the true matriarch of the family and it was her greatest priority to hold the family close together. She delighted in preparing and hosting large family dinners in her home every Sunday.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Kenneth Harm of Pierson; a daughter, Donna Seablom of Pierson; a son, Larry Harm and his wife, Deanna of Bettendorf, Iowa; a daughter, Sandra Wright of Correctionville, Iowa; grandchildren, Tom Harm, Jill (Chuck) Baumann, Arlen (Julie) Seablom, Julie (Fred) Lukins, Norman (LeAnne) Seablom, Randy (Denise) Wright, Sheila (Dr. Scott) Zollman and Shari (Brent) Hansen; 23 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Evalyn (Bill) Pease of Cherokee, Iowa, and Mildred King of Guthrie Center, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fritz; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Harm; sons-in-law, Bud Seablom and Le Roy Wright; grandsons, Jeffrey Harm and Richard Harm; a great-grandson, Nicholas Harm; a sister, Wilma Chinn; and a brother, Maurice Culler.
