DANDRIDGE, Tenn. - Alley Edward Haynes, 76, of 118 James Way, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at the University of Tennessee Hospital.
Born April 2, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was a son of Ordvid Edward Haynes and Josephine Amos Haynes.
He lived in Danville, Va. before moving to Morrow, Ga. He was retired from Piedmont Airlines, where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #734 in Morrow, Ga. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was captured by the Korean Army and was held as a prisoner of war.
He married Ellen Harrison Haynes on April 6, 1947.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth E. Haynes of Snellville, Ga. and Timothy L. Haynes of Rex. Ga.; one daughter, Shelby J. Harrison of Dandridge; one brother, Daniel Haynes of Mayodan, N.C.; one sister, Flossie H. Rigney of Rocky Mount, Va.; two grandsons, Jeffrey E. Haynes of Snellville, Ga. and Timothy L. Haynes Jr. of Rex, Ga. and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Dan River Post #1097.
The family will receive friends 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.
