Mrs. Virginia Murphy, 85, Gold Star Mother, Guthrie, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1979. Mrs Murphy was born Virginia Beavin, Sept 14, 1894 in Cloverport, Kentucky.
She was a pioneer of western Oklahoma near Cheyenne. She taught school 2 years before marrying. She served on Clear Spring school board 3 terms.
Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by a son, Chester Noel Murphy, World War II, U.S. Naval Airforce, and one infant son, and husband, William Murphy.
She is survived by one son, Russell W. Pat Murphy, Dallas, TX; 2 daughters, Gladys Virginia Kell, Oklahoma City and Hazel May Hall of Guthrie, 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mable Eckroad and Agnes Dale, both of Oklahoma City and one brother, Paul J. Beavin of Cheyenne.
Funeral mass was held Nov. 15, 1979 at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Guthrie with Father Richard Beckman officiating. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County with Father Devin of Elk City officiating.
Pallbearers were: Jerry Beavin; Pudge Beavin; Donald Burns; Alfred Reynolds; Phil Johnson and Larry Kelley.
Davis Funeral Home of Guthrie was in charge of the arrangements.
