Clesta Cozette McDaniel, a resident of Cheyenne was born August 21, 1923 in Roll, Oklahoma to Farry Ann and Virgil Lloyd Davis. She passed away March 9, 2001 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years 6 months and 17 days.
Clesta grew up in the Roll/Crawford community. She attended the Roll One Room School before attending Crawford School. She was married to Eddie Lee McDaniel at Cheyenne, Oklahoma on March 2, 1940 where they made their home. Clesta and Edd owned and operated the McDaniel Grocery until 1968. They later owned and operated the McDaniel Variety Store until 1984. Clesta also worked as a Deputy Treasurer in the County Treasurer's Office for several years before serving as Treasurer.
Clesta and Edd were active supporters of the Cheyenne school and enjoyed attending ballgames and other school activities.
She was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church, a liflong member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Sorosis Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Virgie Mae Davis and Etta Fae Garling and an infant brother.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Youngblood, Cheyenne, OK. Two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Becky McDaniel, Cheyenne, OK and Jim and Jill McDaniel, Elk City, OK. Six grandchildren, Donsa Ruthledge and husband Todd and Robert Norris and wife, Norman all of Peyton, CO; Jacie McDaniel, Tulsa, OK; Jamie McDaniel, Norman, OK; Jon David McDaniel, Oklahoma City, OK and Zac McDaniel, Cheyenne, OK. Three step-grandchildren, Wendy Nelms, Gladewater, TX; Billy Youngblood, Wylie, TX; and Kevin Youngblood, Hot Springs, AR. Four greatgrandchildren, Chase and Shane Rutledge and Jack and Jessica Norris all of Peyton, CO and a brother-in-law, Richard Garling of Cheyenne, OK and a host of relatives and friends.
Services were held Monday, March 12, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Cheyenne First Baptist Church, officiated by Terrell Romberg. Burial followed in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
