He was born on Saturday, 26 June 1926 in Tucson, Arizona and was the son of John Harry Murphy and Effie Irene (Mason) Murphy and was the youngest of 11 children.
Gilbert joined the United States Army and after attending parachute school in Fort Benning, Ga., he served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign of World War II.
He served as a police officer in Whittier, CA., for 30 years.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Ellen Murphy, daughter, Judy (Murphy) Wainwright.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harry Murphy and Effie Irene (Mason) Murphy, first wife, Rae (Pack) Murphy.
