Lucile Beggs Hale was born in Denver, the daughter of Nellie and Harry Beggs. Harry was the Supervisor of the Denver Mint; Lucile was the sister of Harry Jr. She attended the University of Denver and attained a degree in library science. She then worked at the Denver Public Library, where she met her husband, Irving Hale Jr, young attorney of the eminent law firm Lewis Grant Newton Davis Henry. After marriage they moved to 345 Colorado Blvd. She was an accomplished pianist. Her two children were Irving Hale III and Robert William Hale. She was a Red Cross Volunteer, working especially with the blind, teaching them braille. After the death of her husband in 1951, she and her young son Robert moved to Laguna Beach, California. She and Robert were active in St. Mary's Episcopal Church. On Christmas night 1953 she was taking packages to the poor when she contracted a heavy cold which turned into pneumonia and a stroke. She died on her birthday, December 30th, 1953.
