Rev. Father Robert Hale, O.S.B. Cam., served as Prior of New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur, California, from 1988 to 2000, and again from 2012 to 2013. A convert to Catholicism from the Episcopal faith, he joined the Camaldolese Benedictines in 1959, and was ordained a priest in 1966. He was a graduate of Pomona College in Southern California, and went on to earn a master's degree in theology from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and a doctorate in spiritual theology from Fordham University in New York. In 1979, he was a founder of Incarnation Monastery in Berkeley, California, and he taught at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, and also at Sant'Anselmo College in Rome. He started the Oblate program for the Camaldolese Congregation of California, and served for many years as Director and Chaplain of Oblates. Author of several books, including, "Love on the Mountain; The Chronicle Journal of a Camaldolese Monk" (1999).
