James was born in New York in 1841, the son of Michael and Mary Ann Fox.
During his life he lived in; New York, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois.
During the Civil Was he was a Private in the Wisc. 44th Vol. Infantry Co. F from 1864 until the end of the war in 1865.
He married Rachel Burns Nov. 11 1865 in Waterford Wisc. and to this union were born 10 children.
James was a farmer most of his life.
James died in Forest, Richland Co. Wisc.First buried in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery on Feb. 14th 1892. In 1927 he was moved to a new family lot in Holy Sepulchre.
