Homer Lawson Peel, 85, of Amherst, died Sunday, September 2, 2012.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012, in Hammons Memorial Chapel at Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield. Family members will conduct the service. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Hammons Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park.

Homer was born February 16, 1927 in Lamb County, Texas. He attended Littlefield High School before serving his country in the United States Army during World War II. After basic training, he married the love of his life, Juretta Simmons in Clovis, New Mexico, before being shipped overseas. After his tour of duty, he and his wife spent their lives farming in Lamb County.

Homer loved farm life and relished raising crops and kids. His family was his pride and joy. He and his wife were long time members of Amherst Church of Christ. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and had been adopted as a dad and granddad to many others. In his spare time he enjoyed working in his garden and his daily domino games with his dear friend, James Hackworth.

He is preceded in death by his son, James Peel; his sister, Edna Cook; a brother, Glendon Peel; and a sister, Lula Gainer.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Juretta Peel of Amherst; 2 sons, Mike Peel and wife Cyndi of Del Rio, and Jay Peel of Amherst; 1 daughter, Darlene Williams and husband Ben, of Lubbock; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jack Peel and wife Pearl of Littlefield, and Joe Peel of Michigan; 2 sisters, Billie Ruth Green of Montana, and Minnie Johnson of Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
