Married Julia Mills of Farmersville, Cattaraugus Co., NY.She was the daughter of Joseph Mills(Revolutionary War Vet)& his wife Mary True.

Abel was a younger brother to James Tarbell(1792-1872),(Veteran of The War of 1812) In 1820, James & Abel Tarbell, natives of New Hampshire came to Rushford, NY by the way of Vermont taking Oxen teams to get there. Their cash capital was only 12 1/2 cents & an old shilling, they bought lot # 52.

[Cattaraugus Republican News]February 13, 1873: pg 2 Column#3: Abel Tarbell of Allegheny County, One of the Pioneers of Rushford, NY died in that town January 28, 1873. He was 70 yrs.,10 months & 26 days when he died.

Abel & Julia's children were:
1. Nelson Tarbell (1826-1894) m. 1850 Lucinda Chamberlain
2. Mary Tarbell (1827 - 1875)m. Hosea B. Persons
3. Emeline Tarbell (1831 - 1896)m. William Babbitt
4. Amelia Tarbell (1835 - 1889) m. Igel Peck
5. Lewis E Tarbell (1837 - 1890)not married, in Civil War
6. Myra M Tarbell (1838 - 1912) m. Quincy Chamberlain
7. Abel Miles Monroe Tarbell(1840-) m. 1st Elsie Farwell, 2nd marriage to Jennette Hill, 3rd marriage to Julia Bosworth.

Abel Tarbell bought from Holland Land Co., the farm that is now owned by Miles M. Tarbell(his son) for $1.25 an acre.
Abel lumbered on the Gospel lot during the day & then cutting 3 foot wood for the fireplace @ night. Abel & his wife were members of the Methodist Church. His youngest descendant in town is Edith Marie Morrison. (1908)
