Martha Irene (Hipsher) Simpson, 93, formerly of Williamsport, died at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at the Whitlock House Assisted Living Facility in Crawfordsville.

Martha was born on September 17, 1918, in West Lebanon. She was the daughter of the late Ira E. And Louise Opal (Routzahn) Hipsher. Martha was a lifelong resident of Warren County until moving to the Whitlock House in May of 2008. She was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport High School.

Martha married Basil Cecil Sorter on February 14, 1937, in Williamsport. He preceded her in death on January 16, 1992. On August 1, 1948, Martha married Ronald "Ronnie" Edgar Simpson. He preceded her in death on September 18, 2001.

Martha was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport High School.

During her working career, Martha worked at the Williamsport downtown theater, Houck's Department Store and the Warren County School Corporation. Martha retired from the school corporation in 1984.

Martha was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 259 in Williamsport, Attica Moose Lodge 1482, Fraternal Order of the Eagles 1453 in Attica, Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 3318 in Attica and the 8/40 Salon 260 in Terre Haute.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen (Keith) Grimes, New Market; Margaret "Peggy" (Dale) Smith, Plainfield; on brother-in-law, Richard Galvin, Williamsport; a sister-in-law, Doris Kiser-Hipsher, Veedersburg; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Maxine (late husband-Roscoe) Bryant in 1998, Betty Pearl Hipsher-Galvin in 2007 and a brother, Edward Allen Hipsher in 2009.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, Tuesday, September 4, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Martha will be laid to rest beside her beloved Ronnie in the West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary 259 of Williamsport.
