Mount Union, Pa., June 11.—
Mrs. LaVina Greenland Smyers died Friday morning, June 13,
1930 about 9 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward C. Barben, after an illness of six weeks. Death was due to a complication of diseases. She was the widow of John P. Smyers who died years ago. She was united in
marriage with John P. Sinyers, December 24, 1874 at Huntingdon, and she has been a much repected
and highly esteemed resident of Mount Union during the
past twenty-eight years. Mrs. Smyers is a charter member of the First Baptist Church and her splendid Christian Character and influence been felt by all with whom she lived and came in contact.
-As long as her health permitted she was a devout worshipor and her judgment and advice rere always sought.
Born in Huntingdon County, Ocober 31, 1855, Mrs. LaVina
Greenland Smyers was the daugher of Caleb and Christiana Greenland. She was the last survivor of the Greenland family. Surviving are the following sons
and daughters: Russel C. Smyers, H W. Smyers, Mrs. Edward C. Barben and Mrs, Charles M. Gross, 11 of Mount Union; Mrs. Miles Cornelius, of Saltillo; Mrs. David Sunderland, now of Detroit Mich., and formerly of Lewistown; Mrs.
John C. Miller, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. R. Stenner, Cincinnati, Ohio; George 0. Shaffer, of Huntingdon,
Pa. Mr. Shaffer is a nephew who made his home with her from infancy. Thirty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held
Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of the daughter, Mrs. Edward C. Barben, 53 E Market St.
