FRANCIS J. (FRITZ) HERBER, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 3, 1926, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Fred and Anna Schmidt Herber. He married Eileen Landstoffer on Sept. 18, 1954; she preceded him in death on March 27, 1992. He was a 1944 graduate of Central Catholic High School and from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Ind. in 1948. He later received an Engineering Degree from Indiana Tech and his Master's Degree in Chemistry and Physics from Ball State University with a teaching certificate. He was a Professor at Tri State College and in later years taught Chemistry, Physics and Math at Bishop Dwenger High School prior to his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke. He held a membership in the American Chemical Society, and American Legion Post 82 on Goshen Road, in Fort Wayne. Survivors include five sons, David A. (wife, Betty) Herber of Lancaster, Ind., Steven F. (wife, Cathy) Herber and Thomas G. (wife, Becky) Herber, both of Roanoke, Daniel J. (wife, Kellie) Herber of Huntington, and Patrick J. (wife, Joanna) Herber of FortWayne; two sisters, Agnes Bauermeister and Esther (Babe) (husband, Dick) Feipel, both of Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his friend, Ruby Funderburg. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Stanley and Rita Sohaski. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 641 N. Main St., Roanoke (IN 46783). Viewing is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with recitation of the Rosary at 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, memorials to: Masses or the Alzheimer's Association c/o McElhaney- Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
