Mrs. Gussie McDaniel Saxon, a life-long resident of Clanton, departed this life Tuesday, July 17, 2012.


SAXONFuneral services will be held Saturday, July 21 at 2 p.m. from Fountain Chapel A.M.E. Church, 110 12th St., Clanton, with the Rev. Cynthia Jones officiating.

Interment will follow in Agee Memorial Cemetery in Clanton with Ross-Clayton Funeral Home Inc. directing.

A family visitation will be held Friday, July 20 at Fountain Chapel A. M. E. Church from 6–8 p.m.

Mrs. Saxon will also lie in repose at the church two hours prior to the funeral service.

As much as Gussie loved her church and family, she also loved her community. She gave unselfishly of her time to many community organizations.

Her affiliations included the following: National Education Association, life member – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., National Alumni Association, Alabama State University, founder of Chilton County Alumni Chapter ASU, founder of West End Neighborhood Watch, American Legion Auxiliary, Chilton County Retired Teachers Association, Alabama Power Company Energizers, Alabama Democratic Conference, Chilton County Democratic Association, NAACP, and Mayflower Chapter No. 82 Order of the Eastern Star.

Gussie leaves to cherish her memories one loving and devoted son, Wendell H. Saxon; a devoted daughter-in-law, Yvonne A.H. Saxon; and two beloved grandchildren, Chrispus H. Saxon and Jewel W. Saxon.

Equally sharing her memories are her siblings, C.H. McDaniel (Betty); Larcenia King; Jessie Singleterry; Romie Phelan; the Rev. Odell McDaniel (Donna); and many special nephews, nieces, great nieces and great nephews.

Special friends include Mary Boykins, Barbara Cummings, Ila D. Smith, Gladys Kennedy, Lee Ada Jones and Lille Bivins.
