VERN J. ARENDT
Mr. Vern Arendt, of Niesen Road in Port Washington, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2012, just shy of his 92 birthday.

Vern was born in the Town of Belgium on October 21, 1920, son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Keller Arendt. After attending local schools, he joined the United States Army, serving during World War II.

On October 19, 1957 he was united in marriage with Myra Niederkorn at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. The couple settled in Port and raised their family. Myra preceded him in death this past June.

Mr. Arendt was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, the Wisconsin News Photographers Association and VFW Post 5373. During his career as a news photographer, Vern earned national awards for his photos. He was employed at the Ozaukee Press and worked until just recently, recording the history of day-to-day events in our local community with his photos.

Vern is survived by his two sons, Christopher of Port Washington and Sam (the late Betty) of Silver Creek. He is further survived by his brother Robert (the late Helen) of Shawano, sister Louise (the late Arthur) Buser of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, daughter-in-law Betty Arendt, brothers Orville (the late Lucille) and Donald ( the late Mary Jane) and sisters Gladys (the late Fred) Hagel and Emily (the late Ray) Schueller.

At Vern's request, he will be cremated. A memorial service will take place at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington at 6PM on Wednesday, September 5th, Father Guy Gurath will preside. The family will receive visitors at CHURCH from 4-6PM on Wednesday. Military honors will follow the Mass
