Joseph Bindl, Sr. was born in Treffelstein, Kreis Cham, Oberpfalz, Bayern, Germany, on May 8, 1860. He was the son of Ignatz Bindl and Katharina Rötzer Bindl. He immigrated on June 8, 1863, with 7 others to the Port of New York, New York. He was married on Nov. 8, 1880, to Margareth Teresa Brückl (Brickl) at Franklin Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin. They had six children: Alois, Anna, Margaret, Mary, Anna (Sister Imelda), and Thecla. Joseph passed away at the Bindl homestead in Franklin Township at age 77 years, 3 mos, 13 days on Sunday morning August 22, 1937, after a long illness. The pallbearers at the funeral were 3 grandsons: Alfred, George and Edward Bindl; and grandnephews, Anthony, Raymond & Norbert Brickl.
