Catherine Rebecca Daniels was born October 9, 1858 in Pecatonica, Illinois, coming to Cherokee county with her parents in the year 1869 as one of the early pioneers.

She was united in marriage to William H. Smith, a veteran of the Civil War, on November 23, 1875. To this union eight children were born, two dying in infancy. After her marriage she resided on a farm near her parents' homestead in Liberty township and has resided here continuously with exception of about five years. In 1885 she removed with her husband and children to Ogden, Utah, where Mr. Smith passed away July 21, 1890. After his death, she returned to Iowa, moving to Larrabee shortly after where she has since resided, having lived in Larrabee longer than any of the present population.

In the year 1899 she was united in marriage to Emmett Siple who preceded her into the Great Beyond November 17, 1917.

She is survived by four sons and two daughters as follows: James F. Smith, Fort Dodge, Iowa; LeRoy D. Smith, Gaza, Iowa, William H. smith, Orient, South Dakota, Frances H. Dailey, both of Cherokee, Iowa.

She was a consecrated, consistent Christian, living a simple Christian life. A diligent reader of God's word, always ready to lend a hand in any good work.

She was a friend to all, always having a kindly word for each and everyone. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend, and will be sadly missed by her family and a host of friends.
