Mrs. Grace Crumb Heckman, wife of Dr. Irvin Heckman, 1013 Harlem blvd, and principal of Garrison and Walker schools for many years, died this morning at 9 o'clock at her home following a lengthy illness. A native of Unidilla Forts, New York, Grace K. Crumb was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Crumb, who removed to this city about 36 years ago. She received her early education in Chicago and adopted the teaching profession, being employed in Marengo and Belvidere, where the family resided for a few years before coming to Rockford. She was appointed to the teaching staff of Garrison school and within a few years was promoted to the principalship, which position she held until about 13 years when she assumed the principalship of P.R. Walker school. She held this position until she resigned two years later, previous to her marriage to Dr. Heckman. Left to survive her are H. A. Crumb and Ward C. Crumb, brothers, both of whom reside in this city, and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.
