[source]--Morning Star, Rockford, Illinois, Tuesday, January 17, 1911, page 3: LONG ILLNESS ENDS IN DEATH--- MRS. R. W. CRUMB PASSES AWAY. FUNERAL WILL BE THIS AFTERNOON.
Mrs. Ruggles W. Crumb, 1013 Harlem Avenue, died Sunday morning at 5:45 o'clock at her home after an illness of about eight weeks, little hope being possible any of that time. Pneumonia first attacked her and heart trouble followed. At her age it seemed impossible that improvement could follow, the ailments sapping her strength until she lay almost inanimate for days.
Her maiden name was Caroline M. Robinson and she was born at Plainville, New York, March 3, 1829. She was married at Brookfield, New York, July 18, 1863. They came west to Chicago forty years ago and about twenty-two years ago came to Rockford. Mr. Crumb was in the lumber and feed business until his death January 26, 1902. Three children survive: Haskell and Ward Crumb, of the R. W. Crumb Lumber & Fuel company, and Miss Grace K. Crumb, principal of the Garrison school. There are five grandchildren.
Decedent became a member of the State Street Baptist church when she came to this city and was active in its work as long as she was able to be about. She preserved a youthful mind in spite of the burden of years and until her illness, was alert and bright. She had many friends and kept pace with them, keeping herself informed on the movements of the day and being well read in everything of interest. She maintained a patriarchal headship of the family and her children and grandchildren owed allegiance to her. The family tie was put strong at all times and her greatest pleasure was in their society.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The sons and grandsons and a nephew, Ernest Crumb, will be pallbearers.
