Sgt. Jacob Garber Rowland, the first husband of Rebecca Beers Rowand Fchellhammer was a veteran of the Civil War. He was in Sherman's army at the siege of Atlanta. He was wounded at the Battle of Utoy Creek; a musket ball in the leg. He was hospitalized for a month and then was released and returned to his company. He developed gangrene in the wound and died. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.
His marker reads: J. C. Rowland.
The inscription is incorrect in that his middle name is Garber. Jacob Garber Rowland.
