Mrs. Irene Leiker, 2401 Walnut, 75, died Friday, Jan. 27, at her home. She was born at LaCrosse November 12, 1902, the daughter of John P. and Louis (Schlitt) Schwindt.
She married Al Leiker at Topeka in March of 1937; he preceded her in death.
The couple operated a grocery store in Hays for 35 years until May of 1971. Mrs. Leiker was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. A real estate agent, she was a member of the National Association of Realtors. In the movie "Paper Moon," she played the part of Granny.
Survivors are: a brother, John Schwindt, Hays; a siser, Mrs. Marie E. Burk, Great Bend; a nephew, Donald Schwindt, Australia.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church. The burial was in LaCrosse Cemetery.
