Harold Leslie Pagel was born on Saturday; November 6, 1915 in rural Tama County, Iowa. He was the son of: August Joseph and Mary (Bahrenfuss) Pagel. Harold attended Tama Public Schools graduating from Tama High School in 1932. Harold and Darlene Violet Appelgate were united in marriage on Saturday; December 3, 1938 at the parsonage of Saint Paul Lutheran Church. Darlene passed away on May 5, 2006 at the age of eighty-seven. Harold was a charter member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church. He was an active member all his life. While living in Iowa City; Johnson County, Iowa, Harold attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Liberty. He also enjoyed attending the Monday Quarterback Club promoting University of Iowa sports and had season tickets to the women's basketball games. Harold most enjoyed spending time with family and the memories he shared of years gone by were priceless. Harold was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his friends from the Tama-Toledo Country Club. He played in the Iowa Senior Golf Tournaments each summer prior to moving to Iowa City. Harold worked for many years for Winters Dairy, then Borden Dairy in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Upon retirement he worked at several other jobs but thoroughly enjoyed his years as Tama County Court Baliff. He often talked of the many friendships he made while there. Harold Leslie Pagel, age 96, passed away on Monday; August 13, 2012 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Those left to mourn his passing are: His so: Roger (Mariedith) Pagel of Bellevue; Sarpy County, Nebraska. His daughter: Kay (Curt) Olthoff of Iowa City, Iowa. His five grandchildren: Scott (Angie) Pagel of Taichong, Taiwan, Shawn (Michelle) Pagel of Aurora; Adams County, Colorado, Shelby (Lance) Bartlett of Bellevue, Nebraska, Kelli Olthoff of Coralville; Johnson County, Iowa and Christopher (Kami) Olthoff of North Liberty; Johnson County, Iowa and twelve great-grandchildren. Preceding Harold in death were his wife: Darlene after sixty-seven years of marriage on Friday; May 5, 2006, his parents; his three brothers: Vern, Earl and Lyle Pagel. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday; August 15, 2012 at the Kruse~Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday; August 16, 2012 at the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Tama, Iowa. Interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama, Iowa.
