Page 172-" The first to suicide apparently was Mrs. Emily Moore, age 27, who killed herself January 27, 1884, at Mammouth Hot Springs with a morphine overdose. The woman lived at Mammoth with her husband and son in the old McCartney Hotel building and appears to have been prosperous. She was suffering from painful neuralgia and so she sent her son to Gardiner to R. A. Bell's store to procure morphine. Apparently on purpose, she took too much of it. Emily Moore was buried in the Mammoth civilian cemetery."
