Captain, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, U.S. Army. Entered the service from North Carolina. Served in the Spanish-American War ApaAwarded the Distinguished Service Cross. From his citation: "For extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, A.E.F., near Vaux-Andigny, France, 29 September 1918. Captain Dixon was severely wounded during the early part of the operations against the Hindenburg line; his company having only one officer, he remained on duty. Shortly afterward he received a second wound and again refused to leave his men. When he saw that the front waves of his company were getting into barrage he at once went forward to stop them, and while doing so he was killed."

He is buried at the Somme American Cemetery, Bony, Aisne, France.
