Mrs, Vernie Marie Kirkland Cairns, died Saturday night at her home in Caldwell. Officers said she had taken poison and no inquest would be held. Mrs. Cairns was born June 10, 1915 in Roscoe, Mo., but had spent most of her life in Caldwell. She had been an employee of the telephone company for nearly five years. She was married to Charles M. Cairns April 21, 1940.
Surviving besides her husband are her mother, Mrs. Minnie B. Garver, one brother, Melvin, a grandfather, Frank Maddox of Roscoe, Mo., and an aunt, Mrs May Murphy of Junction City, Kan.
The body is at Peckham Funeral Home; funeral arrangements have not been completed.
