Melvin Kirkland
Graveside services for Melvin Francis Kirkland, 77, of Caldwell, who died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1988, in a Boise hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. The Rev. Ray Thompson of the United Methodist Church, Caldwell, will officiate, with lodge rites by BPOE No. 1448, Caldwell. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Mr. Kirkland, a retired businessman, was born April 3, 1911, at Roscoe, Mo., son of Bert and Minnie Kirkland. In 1924 he moved with his family to Caldwell. He married Mabel Dixon July 23, 1941. The couple built Caldwell Bowl in 1958, which they owned and. operated until 1969. Mrs. Kirkland died in 1985.
He was a member of the Caldwell Elks Lodge No. 1448, and a former member of the Canyon County Sheriff's Posse.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Francene and Richard Lashbrook of Boise, and four grandchildren, Corbett, Louis, Roger, and Andrea, all of Boise. His parents and a sister, Vernie Kirkland, also died earlier.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Caldwell Elks Lodge No. 1448, Caldwell 83605.
