Samuel J. Persons, 69, of East Jordan, died Monday morning, March 15, 2004, surrounded by his family after a two-year battle with cancer.
Samuel was born Sept. 24, 1934, in East Jordan, the son of Lyle G. and Esther (Piggott) Persons.
Samuel will be sadly missed by his sons, Samuel L. Jr. (Pat) Persons of Grand Rapids and Bruce (Pam) Persons of East Jordan; one daughter, Sherry (Dan) Van Slyke, of Grand Rapidsl seven wonderful grandchildren who meant the world to him, Scott Persons, Jason, Jacob (Emma) and Justin Persons, Tricia (Dennis) Poll, Dan and Mark (Dawn) Van Slyke; three great grandchildren, Bryant and Bryce Poll, and Cameron Persons; one brother Jim Persons, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by the love of his life, who he met again five years ago, Shirley, and her four children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whom he loved and also will miss. Samuel will also be missed by many friends and fishing buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, at Boyne City united Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Litchfield officiating. Burial will take place in Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan.
The family would like memorial contributions directed to Hospice of Michigan, 128 North Court St. Gaylord, Michigan 49735.
