David Beard, son of Aaron Beard and Susannah (Frost) Beard, came to Munsonville/Nelson (then Packersfield) about 1778 from Tewksbury, Massachusetts. He had been a Revolutionary War soldier.
During the Revolutionary War, a proposition was made by the British to the inhabitants of Packersfield to return to their (British) allegiance, based upon certain conditions. A Town Meeting was called and David Beard denounced the whole scheme, saying to the agent, "Pen and ink can't draw the conditions that we would sign!" Packersfield voted against the proposition.
In 1782 he was a delegate to the County Convention. He was the store and tavern-keeper for many years in the town. In 1794 he and his wife Hannah, whom he had married in 1769, were admitted to the church and at least six of their twelve children were baptized there.
As they neared the end of their lives, they resided with their daughter, Dorcas, in whose home they both passed from this life to the next.
Known Children:
Samuel, (? - 1802)
David (Jr) (1770 - ?)
Stephen, (1772 - 1802)
Asa, (baptized July 13, 1794 - ?)
