She was born in Lyerly, Ala., to Gordon Dowdy and Clara Johnson Dowdy and was a member of Union Baptist Church in Griffin. She was active in politics and was serving on the Henry County Board of Elections at the time of her death.
Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Harvey R. Carruth; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth "BJ" and John Mathis, Hampton, son and daughter-in-law, William and Christine Taylor, McDonough; son, John Taylor, Macon; sisters, Bernice Copeland, Jane Cook, Jean Browning, Jackie McWhorter, Frances Massey and Patsy Glass; brothers, Gordon Dowdy and John Dowdy; five grandchildren, Johnny, Sarah and Rachel Mathis, Billy Taylor and Shane Taylor; and one great-granddaughter, Lila Taylor, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
The funeral services was held Wednesday, June 14, with the Rev. Tim Conort officiating. Burial was at Galilee Christian Church in Jefferson.
Haisten Funeral Home, McDonough, was in charge of arrangements.
