Nicholas Joseph Clayton Sr., 79 years old, passed away on Saturday morning, February 15, 1975, at Galveston County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Clayton was born June 10, 1895, in Galveston, the son of Nicholas Clayton, a well known Galveston architect. He was a lifetime resident of Galveston County, making his home at 801 Stubbs Street in La Marque, and was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque. Nicholas was a veteran of World War I.

He left his wife, Maurine Clayton, of La Marque; one daughter, Maurine Ann Sparks, of La Marque; three sons, Nicholas Clayton Jr. of Gretna, La., Michael Clayton of La Marque and Franklin Clayton of Galveston; a sister, Miss Mary Clayton, of Galveston and 14 grandchildren.

The family received friends at the James Crowder Funeral Home. A private family Mass was celebrated at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Olsovsksy officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson. Pallbearers were Wayne Sparks Jr., Nicholas Clayton III, Gregory Clayton, Mike Clayton Jr., Mike Sparks and Leo Clayton, all grandsons of Mr. Clayton.
