Beecher was the brother of Earl M., Ida M. and her unnamed twin, Clifford E, Ruth and George Hutson. He was unmarried and lived his adult life far from his family, working as a farm hand and manager in Colorado and Nebraska. His parents' unusual choice of a given name will remain unexplained by family lore - Henry Ward Beecher (1813–1887) was a Congregationalist clergyman and social reformer, known for his support of abolition and his emphasis on God's love (Wikipedia).
