Alvin Smith

MAPLETON — Alvin Benjamin Smith of Mapleton, formerly of Coos Bay, died Aug. 9 of cancer. He was 79.

He was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Eugene to William and Florence Bailey Smith.

He married Ruby Carder on Nov. 16, 1974, in Eugene. She died Feb. 16, 1993.

He attended school through the eighth grade. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 through 1956 and was stationed in Germany.

He worked as a log truck driver for more than 50 years, working for Whittington Bros., Allum Brothers, Cuddeback Lumber, Rose Logging, Young and Morgan and Essie Inc.

Arrangements by Sunset Hills Cemetery, Funeral Home & Crematorium in Eugene.
