Opel Whittington

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene for Opel Leila Bailey Whittington of Eugene, who died Sept. 1 of age-related causes. She was 93.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1916, in Fleming, Colo., to William and Florence Bailey Smith.

She married Wendell Whittington on Sept. 4, 1937, in Eugene. He died Nov. 2, 2001.

She worked in a cannery and as a nanny before her marriage.

Survivors include a son, Wayne of Eugene; two daughters, Karen Farwell of Salem and Donna Stark of Eugene; a brother, Alvin Smith of Coos Bay; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Eugene.
