Daughter of Richard & Mary E Lewis

---

Annie Harrison Lewis was the youngest of 3 known surviving children (1 boy/2 girls) born to wealthy Edgecombe County planter Richard Henry Lewis Sr., and his (1st) wife, Mary Eliza Foreman, daughter of Ivey Foreman of "Greenwreath" Plantation in Pitt County.

Her mother died in 1840 and in 1849 her father married (2nd) to Martha Elizabeth Hoskins, the widow of John Lawrence Foreman (then owner of "Greenwreath"), who was brother to his first wife.

Annie came to "Greenwreath" to live with her father and stepmother. She died there in 1851 at 13.

NOTE: The Richard H. Lewis, Sr. bible, which was later transcribed, shows that Annie Harrison Lewis was born in Edgecombe on June 2, 1838. However, it also shows that her older sister, Mary "Mollie" Foreman Lewis was born in that SAME YEAR on May 13, 1838 in Alabama at the Lewis plantation there. Obviously, one of the dates is in error, as they both cannot have been born one month apart in the same year. I have posted Annie's DOB per the Bible, but it could be in error.

Her sister, Mary "Mollie" Foreman Lewis (1838-1875) would later remain in Alabama with her older brother, Maj. Ivey Foreman Lewis, CSA (1833-1884), who ran one of the Lewis plantations in Marengo Co, AL and married Amelia Kate Rhodes. Mollie married Gen. William Joseph Hardee (CSA) and died in in Selma, AL where she is buried with her husband at Live Oak Cemetery.
