Ben Clooten, 75, 1112 Portland Drive, Bismarck, North Dakota, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at MedCenter One Care Center, Mandan, North Dakota.

Ben was born January 13, 1924, to George and Violet (Minor) Clooten and attended country schools in rural North Dakota. He married Violet Burtts on July 7, 1948, in Bismarck, where they have lived for the last 50 years. Ben owned a yard and landscaping business for several years. He was also Deputy Sheriff for Burleigh and Morton Counties. He then became a Correctional Officer for the North Dakota State Penitentiary until his retirement. Ben loved to hunt and fish in his early days and also enjoyed visiting and helping people.

He is survived by his wife, Violet; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Ron Zarr of Williston, ND; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne & Paulette Clooten and Blaine & Coleen Clooten, all of Bismarck, ND; 1 sister, Josie Fogarty of Newberg, OR; 5 grandchildren, Dawn Zarr of Williston, ND, Ronald Zarr of Denver, CO, Jennifer Clooten, Danielle Clooten, & Ashley Clooten, all of Bismarck, ND; 2 great grandchildren, Austin Clooten of Bismarck, ND and Brittany Zarr of Denver, CO.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, Margaret, Myrtle, Katherine, and Emma; and 2 brothers, Tom and George.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Robert E. Feeney officiating.

CasketBearers: Joe Knowlen, Ronald Zarr, Jr., Bill Burtts, Andy Mazigian, Albert Fischer, and Pius Johner.

Committal Service: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, ND.
