THORNTON, Colo. - Ruben Funk, 92 formerly of Gering, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at his home in Thornton, Colo.
His funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Rev. Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard.
Ruben was born Sept. 25, 1919 in Gering, to John Jacob and Pauline (Wegelin) Funk. He graduated from Gering High School in 1937. He entered the United States Army Sept. 29, 1943 and served during WWII. Ruben was honorably discharged on April 18, 1946. He was united in marriage to Lydia Schmidt Dec.15, 1946 in Gering and to this union two children were born Sandra and Myron. Ruben farmed in the Gering Valley for 40 years. They moved to Gering then to Thornton, Colo. to be closer to family. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gering, served for the R.E.A., Dome Rock School Board and Farm & Ranch Museum.
Ruben enjoyed woodworking. He loved his family and will be sadly missed. Survivors include his wife Lydia Funk; daughter, Sandy Clayton of Thornton, Colo.; son, Myron (Liz) Funk of Broomfield, Colo.; grandchildren, Byron Clayton, Chris (Stacie) Clayton and Marc Clayton, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; brothers, Dan and David Funk and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Pauline Welton, Esther Lambi, Deborah Earl and John Funk.
