To date, William's exact date of birth has not been proven.

William was born to William Kendall and Elizabeth Combs of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia. Note: The lineage suggested in the attached SAR application is not supported by original documentation. The consensus of Kendall genealogists, genetic testing and extensive research has proven William is the son of William Kendall and Elizabeth Combs NOT Sarah Payne*

According to the Overwharton Parish Register & Land Records of Stafford County, Virginia, William Kendall married Jemima Kirk 10 May 1738 and had the following children:

Jesse 1740-1740
Thomas 1742-c1814 m Nancy Davis
George 1744-c1834 m1 Catherine m2 Catherine
Ann 1745 m Thomas Edrington
John 1748
Samuel 1749-1823 m Mary Susanna Smith
William 1749-before 1810
Mary 1752
Elizabeth 1754 m William Phillips
Jeremiah 1758-1843 m Rhoda McInteer
James 1760 m Ann

A statement made by Jeremiah Kendall under oath 8 of March 1833 at the Fayette County of Common Pleas Court, Pennsylvania for reason of getting a Revolutionary War pension. Original on record at the National Archives.

…"From this camp at White Marsh we marched into winter quarters at Valley Forge. This was the early part of December 1777. We, after reaching Valley Forge engaged in building other houses for the accommodation of the army at this camp I was discharged about two weeks before expiration of my time which would have been 1st May 1778 in consequence of receiving a letter from home announcing the death of my father, which I later showed to the General who did not hesitate a moment in discharging me"….

This William Kendall should not be confused with William Kendall (202523115) of Orange County, Virginia who married Sarah Foster and died in 1777 OR William Kendall who died between 1741 and 1744 in Prince William County, Virignia. These are three different unique William Kendalls.

There is a family story or tradition for a fourth William Kendall (1694-1777) who married Sarah Payne Mason (1699-1749) but no evidence or primary documentation has been found to support these individuals or their existence. In this instance, it is possible the above mentioned William Kendall's were misidentified into one single William Kendall.
