Maurine Hawkes Ryder, 85, of the Town of Blackstone in Nottoway County, Virginia passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 after a brief illness at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

She was the widow of Louis Groenier Ryder and was also preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Ruth Dews Hawkes, and a brother, Richard Hamner Hawkes.

Maurine is survived by a son, Tim Sterling Ryder of Blackstone; five grandchildren, Christy Wilborn (Michael) of Blackstone, Timothy Sterling Ryder, Jr. (Krystal) of Colonial Heights, Aimee Ryder and Genna Ryder, both of Blackstone; and Aaron Hutchison (Desarae) of Powhatan; eight great-grandchildren, Ashton Wilborn, Ally Wilborn, Tylan Boswell, Kassidy J. Ryder, Kaleigh Norris, Jordan Norris, Miranda Hutchison, and Michael Hutchison; a sister, Agnes H. Clay of Blackstone; a special niece, Mollie C. Sellers (Chuck) of Harrisonburg; many other relatives and friends, including dear friend, Marilyn Powell of Blackstone.

Maurine was a very active, long time member of Rocky Hill United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, at the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road, near Blackstone. Chapel funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, April 14, 2011, with burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone. Rev. Linda Lowe will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Rocky Hill United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Joyce Winn, 2359 Rocky Hill Road, Blackstone, VA 23824.
