Peter Van Ryswyk of Monroe passed away at his home on Friday, September 1, 1967, at the age of 72 years, five months and 17 days. He had lived in Monroe for the past 15 years, after retirement from farming. He lived his entire lifetime in the Monroe and Otley Communities with the exception of the time spent in the service of his country during World War I. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe.

Peter was born in Union County, Iowa of March 14, 1895. He was the son of Dirk and Dena (Bierma) Van Ryswyk. On December 22, 1920, he was married to Nellie Branderhorst at Tracy, Iowa. There were two daughters and two sons born to this marriage, they are: Dorothy, Mrs. James Van Hemert of Houston, Tex., Helen, Mrs. Milo Christianson of Newell; John Van Ryswyk of Monroe; and Carl Van Ryswyk of Austin, Tex. His widow and his children all survive him. There are also 13 grandchildren that survive. Four brothers and three sisters survive, they are: Hessel D. Van Ryswyk and Jennie, Mrs. Neal Rus, both of Pella, Henry and Arie Van Ryswyk; Evalena, Mrs. Gerrit Branderhorst and Johanna, Mrs. Bert Steenhoek, all of Prairie City; and John Van Ryswyk of Des Moines.

Peter was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Van Ryswyk were held from the First Baptist Church in Monroe on Monday, September 4, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Wayne K. Anderson officiated at these services and for the family prayer services which were held at 1:45 p.m. at the Garden Chapel in Monroe.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Van Ryswyk sang "No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus" and "Nearer My God To Thee" accompanied by Mrs. Devayne Honnald.

Casket bearers were Hessel J. Van Ryswyk, William Branderhorst, Ronald Branderhorst, Darrell Steenhoek, Dick Van Ryswyk, and Peter D. Rus.

Interment was made in the Silent City Cemetery of Monroe.
