Joseph A. "Joe" Sevart, 75, of rural Parsons, Kansas, a former resident of San Angelo, Texas, died at 10:55 a.m., Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons. He had been in failing health for the past 4 ½ years.

He was born April 12, 1928 in rural St. Paul, Kansas, a son of Henry E. Sevart and Cecelia M. (Richard) Sevart. He grew up and attended schools in St. Paul, graduating from St. Francis High School in St. Paul in 1945. After graduating from high school, he served in the U. S. Navy. He received an honorable discharge as Seaman First Class in August, 1946.

He returned home and married Mary Lou Volmer September 26, 1946 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Mound, Kansas. They started a family that led to five children and 57 years of marriage. She survives of the home.
He farmed in Neosho County before starting his aviation career. In 1956, he moved to Wichita and was employed at Cessna Aircraft Company. After graduating with an Engineering degree from Kansas State University, he began designing and building the first Lear Jet for the visionary Bill Lear. In 1970, he moved his family to San Angelo, Texas, where he was the vice president of Mitsubishi MU-2 Aircraft Corporation. From 1985 to 1990, he was the Director of Certification at Falcon Jet in Little Rock, Arkansas. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to rural Parsons.

He was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. He was also a member of the Society of Professional Engineers and the SAE. He was an aviation purest, professional engineer and one of the highest regarded FAA-DER's in his profession. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed RV traveling and watching western movies. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All that knew him will dearly miss him.

Wife – Mary Lou Sevart of the home; Two Sons – Terry J. Sevart and his wife, Penny Midland, Texas and Jeff A. Sevart Wichita, Kansas; Two Daughters – Mickey Sevart Rabius and her husband, Johnny Wallis, Texas and Jolene Cuellar and her husband, Eddie San Angelo, Texas; Ten Grandchildren; Twelve Great-Grandchildren; Two Brothers – George Sevart Parsons, Kansas abd Harold Sevart Parsons, Kansas; Two Sisters – Pauline Schneickert Parsons, Kansas
Marjorie Gillespie Merriam, Kansas; and Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Sevart Pierson; three brothers, Eugene, Andrew and Richard Sevart; and one sister, Alfreda Purdon.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, Kansas, with Father Wayne Schmid and Father Robert Wachter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with military honors given by the United States Navy Honor Guard. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends following the Rosary.
