Catherine Meyer Chilton Times August 30, 1924

Pioneer Woman Dies – On Friday last, Aug. 22nd, Mrs. Catherine Mayer and one of the pioneers of this section of Wisconsin, passed to her reward at the home of her son, Henry, in the town of Charlestown, death being due to a complication of ills from which she suffered for two months.

Catherine Sebelien was born in Holstein, Germany, March 26, 1849. She came to America with her parents in 1853 and they located in the woods near Taycheedah, Fond du Lac County where she grew to womanhood and where she was married to Christian Meyer, shortly after moving to New Holstein where they resided on a farm.

Later they sold out and purchased a farm in Chilton town on the Kloten road on which they lived for many years. After disposing of the farm they moved to the village of Hayton where Mr. Meyer died some eight years ago, since which time she has lived with her son.

Mrs. Meyer was known in this community as a woman of many sterling qualities, faithful in the discharge of her duties as a wife and mother and helpful as a neighbor. She lived a good life and leaves the world mourned by her family and friends.

The funeral was held on Monday afternoon for the home of her son, Henry, Rev. A. Halboth officiating with interment in the family lot in New Holstein cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Gust of Chilton, John of Marshfield, Henry of Charlestown and a daughter, Mrs. Wm. Dhein, Jr., also of Charlestown. She leaves a brother, Charles Sebelien of Montrose, Colo., and a sister, Mrs. Dora Meyer of New Holstein.
