Marian W. Gorde, 92, Minot, formerly of Foxholm, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 in a Minot hospital.

Marian W. Gilday was born February 22, 1920 in Fortuna, ND to William and Mary (Sanderson) Gilday. She moved with her family to Des Lacs and then Foxholm as a youngster. She graduated from Foxholm High School as valedictorian in 1938. After high school she played basketball and softball on the Minot Aces Team, at one point participating in a preliminary game for the Globe Trotters. She was chosen for the All-Star Basketball Team in 1938. Marian worked as a nurse's aide at St. Jospeh's Hospital, and then for Swift and Co. as time-keeper and payroll and shipping clerk.

Marian married Elmer Gorde on October 19, 1943 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Foxholm. As a member of St. Mary's, she was organist and choir member for thirty years. She was also a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. They moved to Minot in 1966 and became members of Little Flower Catholic Church for about four years, and then St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers at both parishes. She also served as organist at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church for fifteen years and then volunteered with part-time secretarial duties for many years.

She managed Irene's Fabric Shop in Minot in 1969 and then worked at the Spinning Wheel for a couple of years until retirement in 1971. Marian loved music, crafts, writing poetry, baking, crocheting, knitting, and sewing, (sewing clothes for herself and others.)
