Nathan's first two wives were sisters, daughters of Lorenzo Dow Samples and Elizabeth Stallsworth Samples.

Nathan was a good grandfather according to one who knew him well - Homer Kinnison. He traveled with the Kinnison family to Oklahoma for a period of time in the early 1920's and eventually returned to northwest Missouri.

The photo of Nathan and James Schoonover was in the possession of Homer Kinnison and the names were noted on the photo. It was thought to be Nathan (father) and son James Dow. The year of the photo is unknown but James would have been 49 at the time of his father's death in 1926. Does James look near 49? Questionable.
