Walter C. Schell, Retired Rural Letter Carrier, Died Friday
Walter C. Schell, 66, passed away Friday forenoon [Nov. 22, 1946] in the Stevens Nursing Home here where he had been a patient for a week. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Douglas Funeral Home. Rev. John Safran officiated and burial was in Elkland Cemetery.
Me. Schell, son of the late Henry and Isabell Schell, was born May 1, 1880, at North Branch. In 1905 he came to Cass City and on June 19, 1906, in the Cooper farm home in Kingston, was united in marriage with Miss May Cooper.
In 1935, after 30 years' service as a rural letter carrier, Mr. Schell was retired. He was a member for many years of the Methodist church, serving long as an official of the church board and for a time as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of the Cass City Grange and an officer in the Pomona Grange.
Surviving are his widow; two sons and three daughters, Miss Winifred Schell of Detroit; Donald Schell of Morristown, N.J.; Miss Esther Schell of Chelsea; Carl Schell at home and Mrs. William C. Catton Eunice) of Kalamazoo; twin granddaughters; three sisters, Mrs. Almeda Rutherford of Detroit; Mrs. Belle Dawson and Miss Vera Schell, both of Saginaw, and one brother, Fred Schell, of Cass City.
