Deceased Name: Robert Aleck Gandy
Robert Aleck Gandy was born April 15, 1932 in Lewisville, Arkansas. His family moved to Haughton in 1934, where he attended school and joined the Air Force in January, 1950.

He served at Eniwetok during A-bomb tests. He married Camilla Billings in December, 1951, and they had eight children of their union.

He worked as a sheet metal mechanic in California but on return to the Haughton area, he became a painter and carpenter. He worked at Willis-Knighton Medical Center for 20 years before retiring in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claiborne and Pearl Gandy; two brothers, Claiborne, Jr. and Leon Gandy; and two sisters, Lorene McDaniels and Wanda Tallman.

He leaves behind his wife, Camilla; daughters, Elizabeth Baronette, Shirley Davis and Phyllis Brawley; sons, Robert Jr., Steven W., G Leon, Larry H. and Glen E. He has 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters, Irene Pebworth and Jeanette McGee and many nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Willis-Knighton North Hospital, home health care, Willis-Knighton Hospice, and all doctors and nurses who cared for him.

Services will be held at Hill Crest Funeral Home Chapel in Haughton at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 with the Rev. Melton Prothro officiating. Interment will follow at Point Chapel Cemetery in Doyline with military honors. Visitation and reception will follow after the service at home in Doyline.
