Mrs. Abernathy was born in Bartow County on Aug. 6, 1920, daughter of the late Thomas Clifford Smith and Alice Minnie Smith. She was a housewife and a member of Rome Central Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Abernathy, Nov. 30, 1980.
Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce Hall, Aragon, and Dorothy Hall, Silver Creek; a son, Donald Abernathy, Silver Creek; a sister, Mary Tate Head, Rome; a brother, Hubert Smith, Macon; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rome Central Church of God with the Rev. Elgin William, the Rev. Michael Edwards, and the Rev. John Carroll officiating. Interment will be at Floyd Memory Gardens.
