Lillian was born May 15, 1911 in Terry Twp., Pa., the daughter of Cameron Darius Gowin and Carrie Johnson Gowin. She attended school in West Terry and graduated from New Albany High School in 1931. Lillian worked at the Monroeton Hotel for six years and then went to work at McKay and Sayre Lingerie for 35 years retiring in September of 1973. On June 31, 1944 she married Howard Turner in Salina, Kansas, where Howard was serving with the U.S. Army.
Lillian was president of the local I.L.G.W.U for nine years and was a member of Athens Senior Citizens, where she served as president for 17 years, was the tour leader for the Seniors for 25 years. After retiring, Lillian began cake decorating and made many wedding cakes as well as other cakes for a number of years.
Lillian was a member of the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church and the widows club.
Lillian is survived by her sister, Florence Smith of Towanda; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Turner; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard (Sadie) Gowin, Nathan (Ethel) Gowin, Leo (Isabelle) Gowin, Herbert Gowin, William (Muriel) Gowin, Walter (Dorothy) Gowin, and Wayne (Hannah) Gowin; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Della Mae Gowin, Susie (Don) Allen, Elizabeth (John) Clark, Marjorie (Joe) Saxon and June (Harold) Cory; and by a very dear friend, Howard Skinner Sr.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. held Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with her Pastor, Dale Bird, officiating
Interment will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa.
