Gertrude Johnson Mayhugh, lifelong resident of Collingsworth County, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999 in Wellington at the age of 82.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 1999 at the Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Elvis Pitts, pastor, officiating.

Pallbearers were Virgil Patterson, Ernest Moody, Darrell Colson, M.E. Phillips, Harold Caldwell and Jimmy Langford.

Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Born November 21, 1916 in the Rolla Community of Collingsworth County to Floyd and Nina McAdams Johnson, she was a member of the 1935 graduating class of Wellington High School.

She married Roland Mayhugh December 23, 1945 in Wheeler. He died in 1978.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, James Dean Bruton in 1993.

A bookkeeper for several cotton gins for many years, she was a member of the Faith Baptist Church, the Arlie and Loco Home Demonstration Club, the Midway Home Extension Club and was a charter member of the Sabine Pass #2459 Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Little of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Vickie Porter of Wellington; a sister, Lorene Hill, also of Wellington; two grandsons, Stephen A. Bruton of San Pedro, California and Clay J. Porter of Amarillo.
