William E. Schiltz, 83, of Shell lake died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rice Lake. He was born August 1, 1928 in Virginia, MN to Esley and Dorothy (McMurray) Schiltz. Bill graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1946 and enlisted with the US Navy, and was stationed in Guam. He was married on September 10, 1949 in Minneapolis to Doris Angell and they had 3 children. Bill earned employment with Northwestern Bell, working there until his retirement in 1981. In 1969, he built the home on Shell Lake. Doris preceded him in death in 1988. He was married in Spooner, WI on June 21, 1997 to Billie (Quammen) Schwarze, and the couple wintered in Arizona. Bill was an avid carpenter, and loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Billie of Shell Lake and her family; 2 children, William (Jane) Schiltz of Rosemount, MN and Diane (Frank) Shuman of River Falls, WI; 5 grandchildren, Chad (Angie) Shuman of Elmwood, WI, Michael Shuman of River Falls, WI, Jennifer (Dan) Moon of River Falls, WI, Tanna (Brian) Hayek of Bloomington, MN and Julie Schiltz of Minneapolis, MN; 9 great grandchildren, Ty, Brendan, Trenton, Weston, Rayna, Kennedy, Asher, Brody and Hailey; 3 sisters, Dorothy (Jerry) Burns of Edina, MN, Margaret (Jack) Berg of Longville, MN and Diane (Norm) Duvick of Prior Lake, MN and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Robert and his sister, Mary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, August 6, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shell Lake, WI with Father Ed Anderson officiating. Burial of cremains will be in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shell Lake, WI. Friends may call from 12:00 - 1:00 PM on Monday at the church.
