Burns, Dorothy F. (Dot, Dottie) 71, of Bloomington, formerly of Southwest Minneapolis, passed away peacefully Nov. 3, 2012 after a courageous two year battle with colon cancer. Her loving family was with her when she died. Dot was a well respected antique dealer and appraiser, who started in the antique business when she joined a group of friends who opened a shop in the mid 1970's purely as a hobby. Their original quaint shop was on the 2nd floor above an Asian takeout restaurant on 50th & Xerxes Ave S, and they named it The Loft Antiques, now located on the northeast corner of the same intersection, Loft Antiques has become one of the Twin Cities most successful antique malls with 15 dealers. Dottie retired from the business in October, 2011 when the cancer became too difficult to manage. Growing up in South Minneapolis, Dottie graduated from old Central High School, class of '58, and attended the University of Minnesota. She and Jerry married in 1960 and soon had a family. While she maintained many deep and strong friendships throughout her life, Dot considered every new acquaintance, including each of her customers, a prospective friend and her personality often made friendship happen. In later years, Dottie found much comfort and happiness by escaping to the Burns' getaway on the St. Croix River which she lovingly furnished with many of her favorite antiques and special collections. She is survived by husband Jerry, sons Randy (Renee), Danny (Karin), Tim (Terri), and special daughter Brenda (Don) McCormick, seven grandchildren: Kevin, Riki Lee, Kathryn, Madeleine, Nicholas, Harrison, and Jack, sisters Margaret (Jack) Berg and Diane (Norm) Duvick, and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her parents Esley & Dorothy Schiltz, brother William and sister Mary. Services: Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, 11 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1917 Logan Ave S, Minneapolis, with visitation one hour preceding and fellowship immediately following. Private interment.
